The incident happened on Thursday, Feb. 15 around 2:45 p.m., when Croton-on-Hudson firefighters and police as well as MTA Police found an unconscious person on the tracks, the Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department announced on Friday night, Feb. 16.
Metro-North officials then stopped rail traffic and disconnected power to the high-voltage third rail, allowing rescuers to reach the person. Soon, the patient was placed in a basket and moved from the rails.
However, while the person was being moved, they went into cardiac arrest. EMS at the scene and a fire department EMT soon began performing CPR before the patient was taken to a local hospital.
As of Friday night, the patient was awake and recovering, fire officials said.
Croton EMS and Ossining EMS Paramedics also helped respond to the dramatic incident.
